Overview
Citizenship is one of the four aims of Scouting America program. For Lions, citizenship begins at home with those they live with. They will explore how they can contribute to their home and community. Prior to any activity, use Scouting America SAFE Checklist to ensure the safety of all those involved. All participants in official Scouting America activities should become familiar with the Guide to Safe Scouting and applicable program literature or manuals.
Requirements
Requirement 1
Draw a picture or take a photo of the people you live with.
Activities:
- My Lion Family (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 2, prep 2) Draw a picture of the people you live with.
Requirement 2
With your Lion adult partner, choose a job that will help your family. Follow through by doing that job at least once.
Activities:
- Lions Can Help Too (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 2, prep 1) Cub Scouts work with adult partners to identify how they can help their family.
Requirement 3
Talk with a grandparent or other older adult about what citizenship means to them.
Activities:
- Grandparent Visit (Indoor, energy 1, supplies 1, prep 5) Identify a grandparent of one of the Cub Scouts to visit with the den to talk about citizenship.
- Visit From a Veteran (Indoor, energy 1, supplies 1, prep 5) Invite a military veteran to discuss what citizenship means to them.
- Visiting Grandparents (Travel, energy 2, supplies 1, prep 5) Plan a trip to visit the elderly in a retirement or assisted living facility.
Requirement 4
Participate in a service project.
Activities:
- Lion Art Supply Drive (Indoor, energy 3, supplies 2, prep 4) Conduct an art supply drive for children in a homeless shelter or transitional housing.
- Lion Book Drive (Indoor, energy 3, supplies 2, prep 4) Conduct a book drive for a children’s hospital.
- Lion Scouting for Food (Travel, energy 3, supplies 1, prep 5) Participate in your Council-sponsored Scouting for Food event.
