Overview
Lions with their adult partners work with and identify geometric shapes. Prior to any activity, use Scouting America SAFE Checklist to ensure the safety of all those involved. All participants in official Scouting America activities should become familiar with the Guide to Safe Scouting and applicable program literature or manuals.
Requirements
Requirement 1
Make a Lion using only squares, triangles, and circles.
Activities:
- Clay Lion (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 3, prep 2) Use craft clay to make a Lion using basic shapes.
- Stencil Lion (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 3, prep 2) Use stencils of basic shapes to draw a lion.
- Triangles, Circles and Squares Oh My! (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 2, prep 1) Cut out shapes and tape them together to make a lion.
Requirement 2
Play a game with your Lion adult partner or den that is based on counting or numbers.
Activities:
- Hop to it Lion (Outdoor, energy 3, supplies 2, prep 2) Play a game of hopscotch.
- Lion Dominos (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 2, prep 1) Play a game of dominos.
- Lions, Dimes, Nickles, and Pennies (Outdoor, energy 4, supplies 2, prep 1) Cub Scouts count change in this relay game.
Requirement 3
Organize a group of items based on shape, then based on color, and one other category. Count how many different shapes are in each category. After organizing them build anything using only one category.
Activities:
- Count the Shapes in My Face (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 2, prep 1) Identify the different shapes and count them in the Lion face.
- Modular Building Blocks (Indoor, energy 2, supplies 3, prep 1) Use modular building blocks to sort and build.
